Born and educated in India, Dr. Ashok Misra has been a leader in building a culture of innovation in India.
From 2000 to 2008 he served as Director at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, transforming the institute into a leading center for research and development. He continues his focus on innovation, serving as the Chairman-India for Intellectual Ventures, seeking to fuel invention and creative solutions. He also serves on a number of boards including the Board of Directors of Reliance Industries Ltd., the Board of Governors IIT Delhi and the Board of Advisors & Member Investment Committee of Aditya Birla Private Equity. He is a member of the IIT Council, and member of the Central Advisory Board of Education with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India).
For over 20 years he worked at IIT Delhi in roles that included the Head of the Center for Polymer Science and Engineering, Dean of Alumni Affairs and International Programs and Reliance Chair Professor. Dr. Misra has and continues to serve as an advisor to the Government of India as well as to numerous institutes, professional bodies, development programs and corporations.
He is a recipient of a number of national and global awards related to his service in the fields of science and education including the Lifetime Contribution to Education Award from the Higher Education Forum and Visiting Fellow Commoner at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He has co-authored a book, holds six patents and has presented over 175 international publications.
